Artist in Residence is one of the examples of Perfect English style which looks at a number of styles which are quintessentially English.

The first time Annabel Grey set foot inside her Norfolk cottage, she had to climb through a window, because the front door had not been opened for so long it was jammed shut.

Tucked in the middle of a row of five Victorian farm cottages on a quiet village street, it had been empty since the death of its last occupant, a man who had lived in two of its four small rooms since he was born in one of them. There was no bathroom, a lean-to kitchen, and shared washhouses and privies at the back.

A small front room leads straight into the kitchen, which Annabel has extended. Opposite the secondhand range, a door opens onto the steep wooden staircase. (Left)
