With spring on it's way you will want to make your home feel as light and airy as possible. February's interior idea looks at connecting the indoor with the outdoor from the just-published book Small Spaces, by Rebecca Tanqueray.

One of the best ways of making an interior feel more spacious is to maximize its connections with the outdoors. A view of the outside world, framed by a window or a door, draws the eye beyond the boundaries of a home and makes it, quite simply, feel bigger.

Install floor-to-ceiling French doors in a room that overlooks a yard or terrace, so it becomes part of the internal space.
Remove internal doors if you can, so the outdoors can be glimpsed even from the front of your home.
Substitute see-through barriers for solid ones where you can. A glass roof or wall will instantly bring the outside in.
If you haven-t much space, install narrow windows or even a porthole to frame a section of the surrounding landscape.
Maximize the sunlight: enlarge the windows and use frosted or clear glass for partitions inside.
Create a decorative link between indoor and outdoor space by using the same colors or materials for both.
Bring nature inside: flowers, twigs, or even a pile of pebbles will give you that outdoor connection.
If your outlook isn't pretty, install a skylight instead of a window. This will bring in the light and give you unsullied outdoor views.
