Crafting With Mason Jars blog tour

We’re sure we don’t need to tell you that we love a bit of upcycling here at CICO Books towers. Whether you’re the sort of person that looks at a wooden crate and thinks ‘Hmm, what can I turn this into’ or you prefer to work on a much smaller scale, we’ve got books with great ideas for you. Latest to add to your upcycling bookshelf is Crafting With Mason Jars by Hester Van Overbeek. This is Hester’s second book for us, after Furniture Hacks last year (you can read more about that book here) and it is absolutely packed with ideas for upcycling the humble glass jar.  We celebrated the launch with a lovely blog tour last week. Just look at all the blogs we had taking part.

We started the week with Apartment Apothecary who shared some of her favourite projects from the book, including this lovely oil lamp.

Day two saw us pay a visit to Clare Nicolson’s blog, Full Time Fiesta where she’d had a go at making the Wall-Mounted Vase. How lovely do the flowers look against her block colour backdrop?

A Playful Day reviewed the book on Day 3 of the blog tour summing up: For me, this is the joy of Hester's book: a project for everyone’ and celebrating with a blood orange cocktail – a delightfully seasonal take on one of Hester’s picnic ideas. So lovely!

We followed this with a look at Tinkered Treasures favourite projects from the book, including the totally instagrammable picnic in a jar. We know we’ll be doing a lot of this over the summer!

Last but by no means least, we finished up a beautiful blog tour with a post at Claireabellemakes, who followed Hester’s instructions for making your own mason jar candle. How gorgeous does Crafting With Mason Jars look when it’s lit by candlelight?

We’ve had a lovely week celebrating a beautiful and innovative book and are looking forward to seeing some more makes from this book! Just to tickle your creative tastebuds, our most recent #MakeOnMonday was Hester’s tutorial for the Coffee Cup Jar – perfect for summer camping trips! Find the project over on our MAKE YouTube Channel.

Crafting With Mason Jars by Hester van Overbeek is available here. Unless stated otherwise, all photographs are by James Gardiner.

    Shades of Grey on tour!

Assuming you haven’t been hiding under a rock, you’ll know that magnolia is out, and grey is in! And never mind 50, according to the introduction of our new book Shades of Grey, by blogger-extraordinaire Kate Watson-Smyth, there are 500 shades detectable by the human eye! So, it can be a bit of a minefield. We celebrated the publication of this lovely book recently with a blog tour and a launch at the swanky MADE.com show room on Charing Cross Road.

Very Lovely launch venue, with some beautiful grey pieces of course.

Naturally we needed 50 Shades of Grey

We also embarked on a gorgeous blog tour visiting five of our favourite blogs and websites, with sneak peeks and Q&As throughout the week.

We started things off on Luxpad by Amara where Kate was talking all things grey, and offering advice on how to introduce grey into your home. They illustrated their Q&A with some of the gorgeous photography from the book, including this beautiful kitchen:

Katy Orme at Apartment Apothecary followed this up with a fab review: “filled with brilliant advice, inspiring images and Kate’s witty writing style is the cherry on the top” – we can’t help but agree!

On Wednesday Swoonworthy posted a super review and a peek at some of her favourite images from the book, including this lovely sitting room – how much do you want to curl up on this gorgeous sofa?

The Chromologist featured a second interview with Kate, in which we learned what Kate likes best about this most elusive of colours.

Finally, we finished up over at The Lifestyle Editor who was definitely ‘seduced by the stunning interiors in this book’.

What a lovely week! Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to paint our house grey!

Shades of Grey by Kate Watson-Smyth is available here.

Chic Boutiquers at Home on tour!

“Small businesses tend to be more original, ethical and interesting. Let’s support them by shopping from them whenever we can, from small retailers we know and we know we can trust, for durable, long-lasting, well-made products with ethical origins. That’s pretty darn chic.” Ellie Tennant

Last week we celebrated the publication of Chic Boutiquers at Home by Ellie Tennant with an international blog tour of some of our favourite blogs, including homes from both this book, and Ellie’s first book Design Bloggers at Home. With this pedigree we knew it was going to be a good tour, and we had a poster to match!

We started the blog tour off at two homes featured in the book. First off, was Lobster and Swan – that gorgeous navy wall on the cover is from their home (we’re more than a little bit jealous!) Jeska said “A must read for interior decor snoopers everywhere and anyone thinking about starting an online business.” And our second day took a look at the Dutch home of Le Souk owner Danielle, on her blog The Style Files. We just love this fireplace!

Next up we crossed the Atlantic and visited SF Girl by Bay: “the concept only makes perfect sense me — if you’re truly fond of a shop’s look it’s only natural you may love the look of their homes, too.”

This was followed by a post on VosgesParis who appreciated the accessibility of the ideas featured in the book, as well as the final chapter in the book which offers a kind of ‘How to…’ guide. “The book is packed with plenty of ideas to use in your own home and a wealth of tempting new shops to explore…[and] the final ‘How to Launch Your Own Online Shop’ chapter is crammed with invaluable practical advice’.

Over on Happy Mundane, blogger Jonathan Lo chatted to Ellie about the book, and included some of his favourite images.

Finally, we finished up a gorgeous week with My Scandinavian Home and a peek inside the Copenhagen home of Kristina Dam.

What a week! We had a blast, and hope you did too. Make sure you click through to read all the blog posts and if your appetite has been well and truly whetted, Chic Boutiquers at Home is available here.

Torie Jayne's Stylish Home Sewing blog tour

Last month we celebrated the publication of the prettiest sewing book around, Torie Jayne’s Stylish Home Sewing, with a blog tour visiting 6 of our favourite blogs. We had reviews, sneak previews and giveaways galore, all celebrating Torie Jayne’s pastel prettiness! You can read all about the tour below, see some of the beautiful projects in this book, and catch up on any of the posts you missed!

Such Pretty Things set us off with a lovely review, observing that the ‘beautiful, pastel colored designs are pure eye-candy!’ We couldn’t agree more – just look at these pillows!

Next, we were over at  Lobster & Swan who shared a few of her favourite projects from the book, particularly admiring the living room projects. ‘I absolutely adore the round buttoned cushions and the patchwork ottoman, and I think you will absolutely love the colours in the book’.

We followed this with reviews on The Gingerbread House where we admired the lavender tags she’d made, using some totally gorgeous floral fabrics, and then Sew Sensational who’d made a beautiful little felt rose brooch. Aren't they lovely?

Crafting Not Cleaning appreciated the fact that Stylish Home Sewing offers ‘something different from the multitude of other craft books out there’, finding the pastel colour palette refreshing.

A lovely review on Ministry of Craft pointed out just how perfect the projects in the book would be for Mother’s Day (Sunday 15th March – don’t forget folks!) They said the book is ‘chock full of stylish DIY sewing projects, there’s not a dud in there’! Hurrah!

Finally we finished up a lovely week at Folksy who was won over by the ottoman, but loved the range of projects for a range of abilities, and decided that ‘the storage cubes instructions alone would justify its place on any sewer’s shelf’.

As a bonus, Tinkered Treasures  reviewed the book, listing all the reasons why a sew-a-phobe needs this book! For starters: 'Because this book is as beautiful as I knew it would be. With Torie's fresh palette of seafoam, lavender and coral, details like ruffles and ball fringe, and photographs by Sussie Bell: it's a visual treat.' Just lovely.

We’re certain there’s a project for everyone in Torie Jayne’s Stylish Home Sewing and if these blogs have persuaded you, you can buy it here.

    Bohemian Modern blog tour

‘The Bohemian Modern home is a place where creativity, individuality, and a wild mix of colour and pattern meet in a modern environment’

So begins the blurb of Emily Henson’s newest book, Bohemian Modern and we thought what better way to celebrate publishing this wonderful title than with a blog tour reflecting this. With reviews and giveaways on some of our favourite blogs around it was a beautiful week, showcasing the variety in the Bohemian Modern style, and we’ve gathered up all the posts here for you to read and re-read at your leisure!

The week kicked off with a lovely review at Lobster and Swan, highlighting her favourite aspects of the style. ‘The best thing about a bohemian modern home, is that it can be achieved on a small budget if you have some imagination, a thrifty nature and are comfortable mixing different eras and styles’ This was her favourite page from the book!

Next we visited the splendid H is for Home, who gave us an overview of the book and its themes: ‘The spaces are stylish, yet reassuring and welcoming’.

A stunning post on The Lifestyle Editor demonstrated both the varied looks you can achieve with the Bohemian Modern style, and also the fact that it isn’t just ‘brown and orange hues’! We couldn’t agree more, and just love this gorgeous blue.

Day four stopped at Such Pretty Things with a lovely review, including this more ‘subdued and tranquil palette’ – once again showing that Bohemian Modern doesn’t necessarily mean a riot of colour.

Friday 13th was not unlucky for us, as we visited The Little Green Shed, who ‘adores homes that are unique, full of life and that have developed over time’, making Bohemian Modern an ideal style! She picked out the chapter Back to Nature as her favourite, featuring several rooms from this home, including this lovely sitting room.

Last, but by no means least, we rounded off a beautiful week on Happy Interior Blog. He felt that his home was a little urban bohemian and he illustrated his post with some photographs of the book amongst his own bohemian touches. We especially loved this smiley cactus pot. So cute!

What a fantastic week with creativity, individuality, colour and pattern abound!

Arm and Finger Knitting blog tour

Brrr! This chilly weather couldn’t have come at a better time, as we’re feeling super inspired after the blog tour for Laura Strutt’s first book with us, Arm & Finger Knitting! Lots of these projects knit up quickly, so you can have a homemade blanket on your knees in no time at all! What could be better? The tour visited lots of our favourite knitting blogs and we were delighted that they took to this new craft as heartily as we have. We've gathered up all these posts into one handy place for you here. Read on to see what they thought...

We started the week over at Make It Shabby with a review and an interview with Laura (below). They said that it was hard to decide which project they wanted to try out first!

We then popped by Little Squish, who despite having never tried arm or finger knitting before, had really got the bug. ‘The instructions are clear and easy to understand, the photographs throughout the book are gorgeous and the projects are really well-designed.’ You can see her version of the infinity scarf on her website!

Very Berry also made the infinity scarf and loved how gratifying it was to have something to wear almost immediately, and we definitely agree.

On Thursday, we were at Jean Moss Knits, who appreciated the range of projects in the book, with ‘something for every knitter’.

Up until Friday, the bloggers had mostly focused on the arm knitting, so it was nice that Crafts from the Cwtch particularly liked these patterns, including the above storage baskets. (She also coined the term ‘gateway craft’ which we are definitely adopting!)

Our tour even hopped across the pond, to Knitted Bliss who was really impressed, and struck by how much you could do with these two techniques.

This was followed by a lovely review on Katie Gets Crafty who said ‘this book is a real pleasure to follow with clear instructions and a natural flowing commentary throughout’.

And last but by no means least, we were over at A Creative Being with another great review, professing love for this gilet!

Phew! What a lovely week! Recurring theme was definitely appreciating how easy it is to pick up the techniques and skills, as well as the speed at which you can knit something up. No-needle knitting for all, we say!

Arm and Finger Knitting by Laura Strutt is available here.

Annie Sloan's Room Recipes blog tour!

Last week we celebrated the publication of Annie Sloan’s Room Recipes for Style and Colour by Annie Sloan & Felix Sloan with a fabulous blog tour! We had reviews; features and giveaways, all hosted by some of the most beautiful interiors blogs around! It was most exciting! But don’t worry if you missed it, we’ve gathered all the posts in one handy little round up here so you can read and re-read at your leisure.

Lobster & Swan very kindly kicked off the blog tour with this post matching some of Annie Sloan’s chalk paint colours to the themes from each chapter, and tips on recreating the looks. They loved ‘the most colourful and happy’ Bohemian section, and featured several images from this study.

Next we moved onto Décor Art UK who posted this fabulous review on Tuesday, calling the book ‘the perfect first step into the vast world of interior design’, illustrated by more beautiful photographs from the book.

Following this, there was a beautiful feature on Remodelista, who said ‘The volume presents and dissects nine design styles, each approached with the color clarity and consistency that Sloan espouses’ before focusing on one of their favourite looks from the book: London Retro.

Finally, we visited Such Pretty Things with another lovely review: ‘And did I mention what a pretty book it is??? It’s just brimming with stunning photographs of gorgeous rooms and interiors’.

After such a busy week we needed a sit down with a cup of tea and an absorbing interiors book to read…fortunately we knew just the thing!

Annie Sloan’s Room Recipes for Style and Colour by Annie Sloan and Felix Sloan, with photography by Christopher Drake, is available here.

Tuesday saw a delightful review on Lobster and Swan, and Felix even snuck in! ‘I am especially in awe of his ability to beautify dark rooms, walls and surrounding’

This gorgeous book was at the heart of the blog tour but on Wednesday we got to know the man behind the magic a little better thanks to The Lifestyle Editor’s Q&A feature.

On Thursday, Such Pretty Things posted a review, illustrated by gorgeous details from the book. ‘Whilst the book is absolutely stunning…it is far more than just another pretty book filled with pretty images’

And last, but by absolutely no means least, Décor Art UK finished us up with a wonderful review on Friday, focusing on each chapter in turn and illustrated by more of the book’s stunning photography!  ‘a very beautiful book that will teach you to take in every detail’
